Through looking at the exhibition, I found that each artist’s exhibits revolve around their own design ideas and are also based on their own life experiences. Francis Bacon, for example, chooses transparent colors in his work to portray blurred forms with blurred faces, expressing the protagonist’s distortion and the contradiction of wanting to scream but not being able to. The work contained projections of intimacy as an openly gay man when homosexuality was not legal and Bacon’s masochistic tendencies as a child due to his father’s domestic abuse.

Looking at the exhibition also gave me more ideas for my design proposals, such as ‘The Materials and Objects’ in Tate Modern, which showcases artists from all over the world working with different materials. Today, artists are trying to find a language between materials and art. This led me to find an interest and to use materials in the same way in project 5. The materials are twisted, restructured, and applied to the overall space.
